Ex-Giant Ereck Flowers met with Redskins on Sunday night

The New York Giants could see yet another familiar face on the Washington Redskins in 2019, although this one may be a more welcomed sight than that of safety Landon Collins and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

In their quest to help protect whoever is playing quarterback come Week 1, the Redskins have been sniffing around the offensive line market and seem to have settled on Ereck Flowers. At least for now.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Flowers met with the Redskins on Sunday night, and hope in Giants Nation is that he doesn’t leave the area without a contract.

The No. 9 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Miami never developed into the turnkey left tackle the Giants had hoped. In contrast, he turned out to be quite the opposite — a liability and the face of many of the Giants’ offensive line failures.

After several poor years, Flowers was released in 2018.

“I think it’s just kind of run its course,” head coach Pat Shurmur said at the time. “We appreciate Ereck’s efforts, and we just wish him the best. Sometimes a change of scenery is good for a person, and we’re just hopeful he can go out and continue to have a good career.”

After being released by the Giants, Flowers reunited with former head coach Tom Coughlin as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he started at left tackle over the final seven weeks of the season.
