Former New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who was released shortly after the conclusion of the 2017 season only to sign with the Oakland Raiders, has ended his retirement from football after just five months.
Rodgers-Cromartie had previously announced his retirement in late October via Instagram, which came as a shock to both the Raiders and the NFL world.
Rodgers-Cromartie had joined the Giants prior to the 2014 season when he signed a five-year deal worth $35 million. He got through four of those five seasons before being released as a salary cap casualty in March 2018.
DRC had played exceptionally well for the Giants before being moved to safety in 2017, where his playing time decreased substantially.
In 61 total games with the Giants, Rodgers-Cromartie recorded 193 total tackles with 11 interception and three forced fumbles. In 2017, he had 48 total tackles and 0.5 sacks in 15 games.
While the Giants do need help at the cornerback position, it’s unlikely they return to the well and sign the 32-year-old Rodgers-Cromartie.
