Former New York Giants linebacker Connor Barwin has ended his pursuit of an NFL return. On Monday evening, he announced that he is retiring from football.
The 33-year-old revealed the news via Instagram, expressing excitement over what the next phase in his life may hold.
“Tomorrow I turn 33 and after a decade of playing the greatest sport there is, I’m excited to say I’m moving on to the next chapter of my life,” Barwin wrote. “To my coaches, teammates, fans, and family – thank you all! It was a honor to compete on Sundays for the last ten years.
“Houston, Philadelphia, LA, and New York – couldn’t have dreamed of a better journey. Thank you for the good times and all the support!”
A second-round pick of the Texans in the 2009 NFL Draft, Barwin spent four years in Houston before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent in 2013. He remained in Philly for four years before one-year stints with the Los Angeles Rams (2017) and Giants (2018).
Barwin’s best year came in 2014, when he recorded 14.5 sacks and was voted to the Pro Bowl and named a second-team All-Pro.
In 142 career games (15 with the Giants), Barwin recorded 368 tackles, seven forced fumbles, 56.5 sacks, 44 passes defensed and one interception.
