Tory candidate's Janey Godley 'slap' comment blasted

An ex footballer and Tory candidate has come under fire from Janey Godley and her followers after tweeting he would have 'slapped' her if he had seen her holding infamous Trump Is A C*** sign at Turnberry.

After Janey reposted the globally recognised picture of her carrying the cardboard sign to 'welcome' Donald Trump to Turnberry in 2018, former Leeds United and Hull City player Matt CJ Baker decided to leave a comment on Twitter.

Goalkeeper Matt, who also played for Wrexham, Milton Keynes Dons and trained with Aston Villa, also stood (and lost) as a Leeds City Councillor for the Conservative party in the 2010.

Matt, who describes himself online as a 'Former professional football now with dodgy knees' wrote: "If I’d have been staying there and saw that sign I’d have slapped you. I can’t stand the guy, but to lower yourself to his level in public is pretty grotty."

His response provoked an angry response from Janey and her followers who labelled the answer 'pretty grotty' and claimed he had 'Dodgy knees and dodgy morals'.

Janey, who along with others, reported Matt to Twitter, said: "Here’s the thread of Matt the man who would have slapped me, but it’s ok because he’s a Tory and I am a comedian."

One of her followers replied: "Slapping someone in public is pretty grotty behaviour."

Another added: 'As a former HR manager, I can honestly say that a threat of violence is much more cause for concern than a dirty word."

Matt responding by reminding Janey that he didn't actually slapped her.

Janey replied: "You didn’t slap me because you weren’t there BUT you said YOU WOULD slap me if you were."

Matt replied: "Yes I Didn't. Unless you have a time machine that can transport people back in time to relive something that had already happened"

Comedian Scott Agnew questioned: "How many women have you slapped when you have been in the vicinity of them when they've done something that displeases you? Have you slapped women before because they have spoken out?."

Another added: "In 2021 threatening to slap a woman for her actions is unacceptable & actionable. YOU wrote that you’d have slapped Janey Godley if you’d been there. Here’s a reminder of the tweet that’s now “missing ” from your timeline. Reported again."

Matt's comment has now been deleted.
