Ex-Fiorentina star Michele Bacis' eight-year-old son dies after falling from balcony

Former Fiorentina defender Michele Bacis' eight-year-old son has died after falling from a balcony.

The child was playing on the balcony at his house on Saturday night when he lost his balance and fell three floors, according to reports from Italy.

The young boy was rushed to the San Donato Hospital in Arezzo, but was declared dead upon arrival. Police are investigating.

A neighbour told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera: "We heard a dull thud coming from the street, we looked out and saw the child's body and then we heard the screams of the parents."

The heartbreaking incident comes just weeks after Baci lost his uncle to COVID-19.

Bacis' career in football began at Atalanta, where he came through the youth system before moving to Triestina in 1999.

The defender made his professional debut with Triestina and went on to make a further 100 appearances for the club in the following four years.

From there the defender moved to Fiorentina before spells with Arezzo, Genoa, Avellino, Cremonese, Monza and Paganese.

Bacis returned to Arezzo in 2010 before calling time on his playing career and taking up coaching. The 40-year-old worked as a youth coach for three years before leaving Arezzo.
