Ex-Families SA worker pleads not guilty to 11 child sex charges

A South Australian child protection worker has pleaded not guilty to 11 child sex charges in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.

The 33-year-old man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was a residential care worker at the child protection department, formerly known as Families SA.

His arrest last November prompted the State Government to engage a legal firm to conduct an independent review of the department's employment practices.

He appeared in court via video link from custody on Friday and formally denied the charges against him, which include two counts of persistent sexual exploitation of a child.

He is also charged with five counts of having sexual intercourse with a person under 14 years of age, gross indecency, aggravated counts of indecent assault, and sexual manipulation.

He was committed to stand trial in the District Court at a later date.

SA Child Development Minister Susan Close previously said the man was immediately directed away from the workplace when the allegations were raised, and a review of his employment history had been undertaken.
