Ex-F1 driver Logan Sargeant joins Bahrain WEC rookie test

Former Williams Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant has become a late addition to Sunday’s World Endurance World Championship rookie test in Bahrain.

The American will drive a Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3 at the Bahrain International Circuit on 9 November, as per the latest version of the entry list published on Saturday.

Sargeant will share driving duties in the #77 Mustang with long-time Proton racer Giorgio Roda, while the team’s WEC regular and factory Ford driver Dennis Olsen will also be in action.

The news of the Bahrain test outing follows Sargeant's return to racing in September, driving for PR1 Mathiasen in the final two rounds of the IMSA SportsCar Championship.

He had originally been due to contest the full 2025 European Le Mans Series as part of a Genesis-backed campaign with the IDEC Sport team. This was seen as a preparatory year for a potential move into the Hypercar category with the Hyundai-owned marque.

However, on the eve of the season, he stepped down from the LMP2 seat to pursue other interests, and didn’t return to racing until IMSA’s Indianapolis event two months ago.

He went on to finish fifth in class at Petit Le Mans, the final round of the season in October, sharing the PR1 Mathiasen’s Oreca 07 with Naveen Rao and Benjamin Pedersen.

The 24-year-old, who scored a single point during his F1 career, is yet to announce his plans for 2026 but is expected to continue in the ELMS.

The annual Bahrain rookie test features five hours of on-track action, split into two sessions of two and three hours.
