Ex-Everton boss Ronald Koeman admits 'danger' of Barcelona sack after latest embarrassing loss

Ronald Koeman has admitted he is unsure about his long-term future at Barcelona after the former Everton manager and his team suffered another embarrassing defeat.

Following on from Sunday's loss to Real Madrid - who are managed by ex-Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti - the Catalan giants were in the capital to face Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

However, the team were unable to get back to winning ways as they were beaten 1-0 by their hosts, with former Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea forward Radamel Falcao scoring the only goal of the game.

As relayed by Gracenote, it's the first time Barcelona have lost three games in a row in all competitions without scoring a goal since 1987, after which then manager Terry Venables was replaced by Luis Aragones.

With Barcelona down in ninth in La Liga after the defeat, Koeman 's position is set to come under even more scrutiny.

After the game, the Dutchman said he wasn't completely sure about his future at the Camp Nou.

"I don’t know if my future is in danger," he said, per Marca (h/t Football Espana ). "It was difficult for us to get into the game, they put a lot of pressure on us. We’ve been superior. The result isn’t fair, but it’s there and we can’t change it.

"The game we lost today isn’t a problem of attitude or play. The team’s level has dropped. We’ve lost very effective players, which also counts."

Koeman is a legend at Barcelona after his goal in the 1992 European Cup final earned the club the trophy for the first time.

However, his tenure as manager is in danger of spiralling out of control. After Sunday's Clasico loss a number of fans accosted him in his car after the match.

Koeman endured a tough spell at Goodison Park too, as he was sacked just over a year into the job. After a solid first season in charge where the team finished seventh, he was axed by Everton with the team in the relegation zone.
