Ex-England rugby star puts the NFL on notice as he scores a 65-yard touchdown with first touch

Former England rugby player Christian Wade has put the NFL on notice after making a huge splash in his first game.

Wade left rugby in his rear-view mirror and set off for the States last October, a huge challenge that many have attempted and failed.

But he signed with the Buffalo Bills in April after coming through the NFL's International Player Pathway Programme.

The hot-stepping former winger is still a long way off making the Bills' final 53-man roster for the regular season and will have to impress every chance he gets in pre-season.

But it couldn't have started any better as he ran in a 65-yard touchdown with his very first touch of the ball last night.

Wade was introduced in the fourth quarter against the Indianapolis Colts and cut loose all the way to the end zone, sparking raucous scenes on the Bills' sideline.

"I remember the same play we did in practice," said Frank Gore, Wade's Bills team-mate about to enter his 15th NFL season.

"We were watching film, if the line is blocking outside then you cut in.

"That’s what’s great about him (Wade), you know he paid attention and is catching on to the game. I’m happy for him.

"It’s tough to play this game at a high level. I’ve been playing this game since I was four years old and this was just his first football game.

"I’m happy to see him getting better every day."
