Ex-England rugby player Mike Tindall’s company furloughs staff

The company of former England rugby player Mike Tindall has claimed money through the government’s furlough scheme during the pandemic.

Mr Tindall, who is married to Olympic equestrian sportswoman Zara Tindall - the Queen’s granddaughter - is the director of Bath-based business Kimble Trading Ltd.

Companies House accounts for the year ending March 31, 2020, show that since the balance sheet date the outbreak of Covid-19 and subsequent restrictions imposed have led to a number of events in 2020 being cancelled.

The accounts, filed in December, said the company had “taken advantage of all available government aid in order to support the business and its employees through the crisis”.

As first reported by The Sun , Kimble Trading Ltd appears on a Government-published list of employers which have claimed through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

It is not known who at Kimble Trading Ltd has been receiving the furlough money but it is understood none of it went to Mr Tindall and there is no suggestion of any illegality.

The furlough scheme is due to come to an end on April 30 after Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced an extension to the scheme to give employees certainty during the winter months.

The government is paying 80% of the salary of employees for hours not worked until the end of April.

Employers will only be required to pay wages, National Insurance Contributions (NICS) and pensions for hours worked; and NICS and pensions for hours not worked.

The eligibility criteria for the UK-wide scheme has remained unchanged and also apply to all devolved administrations.
