Ex-England defender says Chelsea are Man City's only rival for Premier League title

Glen Johnson believes the Premier League title race is a two-horse race between Man City and Chelsea this season.

City won the title last year by 12 points but were beaten by Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals and Champions League final as their season ended with a whimper. They have since added Jack Grealish to their squad for £100m, while Thomas Tuchel added striker Romelu Lukaku to the squad for £97.5m while also signing Saul Niguez on loan on deadline day.

The former Blues and England defender believes that those signings mean the two sides have arguably got the best depth in the competition and that will prove crucial in the title race, pulling them away from another of Johnson's former sides Liverpool.

Speaking to BonusCodeBets, the former right-back said;

"Any team that wants to try and take on Manchester City will have to improve from last season. However, if anyone can push Manchester City this year, it will be Chelsea.

"Thomas Tuchel has done a tremendous job with a fantastic young squad, and they've added a world-class striker in Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea will be a real threat this season.

"Liverpool don't have the squad depth to challenge Manchester City and Chelsea this season. However, they've got a strong group of 15 or 16 players that can compete for the league, if they're able to stay fit.

"Liverpool are two or three injuries away from damaging their team severely, whereas Manchester City's second team could still make the top six. This kind of strength and depth can make all the difference when it comes to the later months in the season."
