Former England cricketer Nick Compton has become embroiled in a Twitter storm after wading into the protests regarding the Black Lives Matter movement.
Social media has been filled with messages of support for the movement from users across the globe, following the controversial death of African American George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Sport stars are among those to pay their own moving tributes, however Compton - who played 16 times for England - drew a negative response from followers after submitting a post on Twitter which one user labelled as "clueless and uneducated".
Compton retweeted a story about the death of white doctor Roelof Botha in South Africa, and wrote: "All Lives Matter."
Botha was killed on his own farm in Tulbagh, Western Cape, on Monday, after sustaining multiple stab wounds.
South Africa - where Compton hails from - has a long and shocking history of racism, though there is no suggestion that any of the four men who have since been arrested in relation to the attack are from an ethnic background.
Twitter users have since commented on Compton's post, slamming the former Middlesex batsman for his view.
One follower wrote: "Read the crowd Nick. As awful as this story is, do you really not get it?"
Another commented: "Not a good look, Nick."
Floyd's death in the US has angered civilians across the globe, particularly as he died whilst in police custody following his arrest on May 25.
The 46-year-old was restrained by police for allegedly attempting to use a counterfeit $20 note.
A video emerged of the arrest taking place in the street by police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes.
Floyd passed out after numerously pleading he couldn't breathe, before later dying in hospital, while Chauvin has since been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
He becomes the latest African American to die in controversial circumstances in the States, following the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor earlier this year.
His death has sparked violent demonstrations across the US as protestors demand for change.
Summarising the response to Compton's tweet, user NakulX wrote: "The story you posted is absolutely relevant and deserves awareness.
"Your words to go along with the tweet are absolutely irrelevant and ignorant to current affairs. Whilst all lives matter, all lives don’t get the same treatment and justice."
