Ex-England Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke set for bumper oil payout

Former England Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke is set for a £3.6 million payday after AIM-listed oil firm Amerisur agreed a £242 million offer from rival GeoPark today.

Clarke founded Amerisur 10 years ago with chief executive John Wardle.

New York-listed GeoPark has tabled a 19.2p per share offer and the deal is expected to close in January.

Clarke is best known for building up and selling Majestic Wine in the 1980s.

He later became chairman of the ECB where he signed a multi-million pound deal with Allen Stanford.

Stanford was later jailed for a giant Ponzi scheme he cooked up in Antigua.
