Ex-Emmerdale star Anna Nightingale lifts the lid on rift between co-stars Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins

Former Emmerdale star Anna Nightingale has opened up about those reports of an on-set rift.

Last week, Emmerdale bosses were forced to address rumours of a fallout between Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins as they filmed stunts for their big Super Soap Week - they play David Metcalfe and Victoria Sugden respectively.

They are an on-screen couple in the soap but reportedly no love was lost between the pair during a tense day of filming.

The argument is said to have taken place at Tees Barrage water park in Stockton-on-Tees.

The incident has been played down by ITV and there have been Instagram posts from Isabel telling her followers how she loved working with Matthew while they filmed their Super Soap Week scenes.

Anna Nightingale, whose character Andrea was killed off last month during Super Soap Week, has spoken of how filming high-pressure scenes can be challenging.

The Sun reports that Anna said: “When you film scenes like that, the cast, the crew, everybody, is being pushed. And they are pushing themselves too, because they want the work they are doing to be good.

“When you’re filming special episodes people are tired and people are emotional, because they are working so hard.

“Then they are doing stunts as well. I wasn’t aware of an argument because I wasn’t working with the cast involved, so I can’t comment on the specifics.

“But I know that under those circumstances it wouldn’t take very much for people to get to that place.

“That said, I’ve checked in with people on the show since who say things are good. And Matthew and Izzy are best mates, so I’m sure they will be supporting each other.”

Matthew and Isabel’s characters are currently off-screen as Emmerdale bosses investigated the incident. Neither were suspended and they are expected back on the show in the new year.
