Ex-editor to research regionals' decline

Neil Fowler, former editor of the Newcastle Journal, The Western Mail and then publisher and chief executive of the the Toronto Sun, has been awarded the year-long Guardian research fellowship at Nuffield College, Oxford, starting in October 2010. He is planning to research that most topical of subjects: the decline of regional newspapers. Let's hope there is something to study in 18 months' time.
