Ex-EastEnders star Michelle Collins blames 'snobby' agent for rejecting Strictly

Ex-EastEnders star Michelle Collins has revealed she turned down Strictly Come Dancing because of her 'snobby' agent.

The Cindy Beale actress rejected a chance to compete in the BBC dancing contest and has not been asked again.

Michelle was told by her former agent that Strictly was beneath her and advised not to take part.

Speaking on today's Good Morning Britain, Michelle admitted she regrets not jumping at the opportunity when it was offered.

She told presenters Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway: "I’ll be honest, they asked me four years ago and I turned it down because I was with an agent who was a little bit snobby about it.

"I had just gone with this new agent and she and they said ‘Oh I don’t think you should' and they have never asked me since."

Michelle's former on-screen daughter, Catherine Tyldesley, is competing for the famous glitterball trophy this year.

Soap star Michelle, who played Eva Price's mum Stella, believes Cath will be a success in the Strictly ballroom.

She said: “She’s a sort of musical theatre person, she’s a great singer, great mover. She is in her element, she will love it. I hope she does well, I’m sure she will.”

Michelle is best known for her appearances in EastEnders and Coronation Street , which she worries has an impact on the types of role she is offered.

She is treading the boards in a major revival of How Love is Spelt and has a guest role in an upcoming episode of Casualty.

“Sometimes as an actor you want to sort play lots of other different things,” she told GMB.

“One does get typecast I suppose and I have this face that everyone thinks that they know.

“Everyone thinks that they know you, so you always want to do something that’s slightly more challenging where you reinvent yourself. “
