Ex-EastEnders actor looks unrecognisable in new series of police drama The Bay

EastEnders ' former Peter Beale actor Thomas Law looked drastically different in brand new gritty police drama The Bay which debuted on ITV on Wednesday.

Thomas was the fifth actor to play Ian Beale's young son, and he left the soap in 2010 after four years in the role.

Peter is now played by Dayle Hudson, with other actors in the role including Ben Hardy, Joseph Shade and Alex Stevens.

When Thomas' character DC Eddie Martin appeared on screen, several viewers expressed their surprise at the seeing the actor again, transformed after 11 years since his EastEnders reign came to an end.

One tweeted: "That guy who was sat round the detectives table was the guy who used to play Peter beale in eastenders years ago, as soon as he spoke I recognised him #TheBay ".

Another wrote: "Did not recognise Peter Beale from @bbceastenders. #TheBay ".

The Bay viewers were surprised to spot the former soap star (ITV)

A third wondered: "omg is that the original peter beale??? #TheBay ".

"Previous and normal sized Peter Beale got a job as a policeman! #TheBay," joked another.

The Bay aired the first episode of its second series with Morven Christie returning as DC Lisa Armstrong, while Daniel Ryan reprised his role as DI Tony Manning.

Also returning were Taheen Modak as DC "Med" Kharim, Abbie [Imogen King], Rob [Art Parkinson] and Penny [Lindsey Coulson].

The officers were called to a scene of a grisly murder as a seemingly ordinary man was shot to death execution-style at a family barbecue in front of his young son.

Lisa was asked to investigate the crime but was still dealing with the repercussions from her actions last year.

A new family joined the series who own and run a local solicitors firm, headed up by Bill Bradwell, played by James Cosmo, and Stephen Marshbrook, played by Stephen Tompkinson.

Also joining the cast were Amy James-Kelly, Owen McDonnell and Joe Absolom, as well as Sharon Small, Sunetra Sarker, Steven Robertson, Kerrie Taylor, Wendy Kweh, Julia Haworth and Jack Archer.

* The Bay continues next Wednesday at 9pm on ITV
