Ex-EastEnder Samantha Womack to live off grid in a disused hotel in Spain

Samantha Womack has revealed she sold her family home so she can now live off the grid in a disused, rural hotel in the mountains of Spain.

The former Eastenders actress sold the house she lived in for 15 years, where she raised her children with actor ex-husband Mark.

Womack, 49, says she plans to live full-time near Valencia at the former hotel up in the mountains and might even set up a retreat there.

Speaking to Woman's Weekly, the property-obsessed actress said: "During lockdown, I bought a place in the mountains. I'm going to be full-time in Valencia, so I'm thinking of doing a retreat or something there.

"It was a rural hotel and it's on a cycle path, so maybe [a retreat for] painting or eating. I haven't really thought about it yet, but after the pandemic it at least gives me an alternative, if anything happens again that knocks my industry.

"I lived with my ex Mark and our kids in the same house for 15 years. It was gorgeous, but I like the challenge of new spaces and not knowing what I'm doing next year.

"Both my kids live away from home, which is a weird feeling. If I was home now with everyone having left it would be a bit melancholy, so it feels nice to focus on something else."

Womack may have come across the hotel listing online as she admitted she is 'addicted' to looking at property prices on websites.

She added: "If I can't sleep, at two in the morning, I could tell you the house prices in the desert. I don't know what this fascination is."
