Tributes have been paid to a former Dundee United trialist who was stabbed to death last night.
Promising player, Josh Dunne, died after sustaining serious knife injuries during a disturbance in Dublin on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old was one of two teenagers seriously injured in a “very significant public order incident” in the north of the city.
He was rushed to the Mater hospital but tragically could not be saved.
Two other men were also treated for injuries following the incident that happened at about 9.20pm, the Irish Times reported.
Gardai officers later confirmed a murder inquiry has begun.

Josh took part in trials for Dundee United Football Club’s Academy in 2019.
A club spokesman said today: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Josh Dunne.
“Josh was a trialist with our Foyle Cup & Super Cup squads in 2019 where he was warmly welcomed & respected by players & staff.
“Our thoughts & best wishes are with his family & friends”
Other teams also paid glowing tributes to the young player.
Bohemian Football Club said: “Josh was a talented young footballer who will be sadly missed by former team-mates and coaches.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

St Kevin’s Boys FC said members of the teenager’s team and coaching staff were “all devastated to hear the sad news”.
They added: “Josh was a very talented footballer and well-liked by all his teammates and will be sadly missed by all of us.”
Independent councillor Anthony Flynn, who lives close to where the incident happened, said the death was “a serious blow to the community”.
He said: “It happened at the top of my road and I was one of the first on the scene last night. The community are in shock at what’s happened.
“It was a horrific sight for anyone who was there last night, in particular those members of Dublin Fire Brigade that were assisting with the incident."
