Ex-Dublin hurler Mick Carton gives update on coronavirus recovery

Former Dublin hurler Mick Carton says he is well on the road back to fitness after his recovery from coronavirus two months ago.

The O'Toole's clubman has been reflecting on his Dublin career with Eamon Fennell on Dubs TV this evening and gave an update on his recovery from Covid-19.

"I feel good, great to be out, back working and back to some form of normality," Carton, who works with Dublin Fire Brigade, said.

"I've recovered well. I didn't know, in the hospital they weren't sure if I might have some scarring on my lungs...I don't feel anything.

"I went back training for the last week or two and I was a bit gassed but I think that's just my own fitness levels, so I'll find out in a few more weeks."

Carton opened up about his experience in an interview on RTE back in April, saying: "It was a tough week. They sent an ambulance straight away.

"The first six days in hospital were really tough.

"There were some scary moments. I was really sick in hospital and they did a chest x-ray and the results were quite vicious.

"I was surprised because I wasn't having any shortness of breath. To see that x-ray when I wasn't showing any symptoms was scary.

"They had me on oxygen for four days solid and struggled to get my oxygen levels up.

"I'm young, fit and I definitely struggled to shake it."

Carton went on to praise the staff who looked after him at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.

He added: "I can't thank the staff enough. They were putting their lives at risk looking after us all."
