What’s new: Yang Fulin, deputy commander of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC), has been placed under investigation (link in Chinese) for “serious violations of discipline and law,” the Communist Party’s internal anti-graft body, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), announced Thursday.
The announcement comes four years after Yang was removed in April 2017 from his post as the top official in charge of the legal and security apparatus in the Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region.
Why it matters: Yang is the fifth official in the XPCC’s top leadership to have been placed under party investigation since President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign began in 2012.
The other four officials caught up in the graft probe include Liu Shiqi, former commander of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and three members of the XPCC’s party standing committee.
The XPCC, also known as the Bingtuan, is a quasi-military, governmental organization in Xinjiang.
