Ex-Crystal Palace chairman blasts 'moron' Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie after Cardiff City vs Swansea City match

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has branded Oli McBurnie a "moron" following his antics in the away end during Swansea City's Championship clash with Cardiff City.

The striker once again showed his support for his former club by joining fans in the away section of Cardiff City Stadium for the second South Wales derby of the 2019/20 campaign.

McBurnie was spotted on camera making a lewd gesture towards the Cardiff supporters.

On Monday, the forward was reminded of his responsibilities by the Football Association.

And Jordan says Blades boss Chris Wilder will not be impressed with his frontman after his day out in the Welsh capital.

"You've got a player that doesn't play for this club any more coming back and getting involved in something that is unseemly," he said on TalkSport.

"Of course you want the modern day footballer to be as close as possible to the fans.

"The fact they're paid in such a way probably makes that impossible in this day and age.

"The fact Oli McBurnie is now playing in the elite league in world football, I don't imagine that Chris Wilder is going to be thinking this is wonderful behaviour.

"It's not about Lee Trundle's ridiculous point of view or Gary Neville's mentality that players should be able to do and say what they want and that whilst they're behaving in an unsatisfactory manner, they should be praised for being in touch with the fans.

"If I was the chairman of Sheffield United, I would be saying 'what's the matter with you son? Is there something wrong with you? Why would you need to behave like this? Of course I'm happy for you to support your former side and that you're a young man with a lot of disposable income so you can go and live a life that most people can only dream of, but with that, young man, comes a degree of responsibility to behave in a certain way'.

"He's a young guy with a greater responsibility than just what he thinks he can do. He's playing in the Premier League, the biggest league in world football, with the most focus on it.

"We can't just sit there and go 'well there's no responsibility for that, and you can do what you want and he's a young man connecting with the fans'. No. He's a moron."

It wasn't the first time McBurnie has shown his support for the Swans since leaving the club in the summer.

The forward attended the 1-0 win over Cardiff at the Liberty Stadium in October while he was also in the away end when Steve Cooper's men beat Queens Park Rangers 3-1 at The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
