A former councillor has appeared in court accused of a string of sexual offences against his ex-wife over a 13-year period.

Philip Young, 49, is charged with 56 sexual offences against his former wife Joanne Young.

Young, formerly of Swindon but now living in Enfield, is charged with offences including rape and administering a substance with intent to stupefy/overpower to allow sexual activity.

He has also been charged with voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children and possession of extreme images.

Five other men have also been charged with offences against his ex-wife, 48-year-old Joanne Young, who has waived her right to anonymity, and are also due in court on Tuesday.

Young was remanded into custody after appearing at Swindon Magistrates' Court.

Young was told to attend Swindon Crown Court on January 23 2026.

He did not react as the dock officer handcuffed him and took him to the cells.
