Ex-council worker charged with stealing £260,000 from local authority

A former council employee is due in court next week charged with stealing £260,000 from the local authority she worked for.

Karen Kavanagh, 60, of Malvern Close in Kirkby, is alleged to have stolen £260,382 over an 11 year period while she was working as a payments team leader for Knowsley Council.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred over a period between March 2008 and February 2019.

Kavanagh was arrested in May last year and is understood by the ECHO to have been dismissed from her role at the council.

She is now due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court next Wednesday (March 25) to answer a single charge of committing fraud by abuse of position.

She is yet to enter a plea.
