Ex-Corrie star fearing 'what will happen' to gran, 97, in care home after mum's arrest

Former Coronation Street star Leandra Ashton has admitted that she is worried about what will happen to her gran,97, after returning to her care home.

Leandra's mum Ylenia Angeli, 73, was arrested after trying to take her dementia-stricken mum out of a care home.

Retired nurse Ylenia hadn't seen her mother for nine months because of the pandemic and wanted to take her home.

It was later confirmed that the arrest by Humberside Police had been withdrawn and that Ylenia had been able to return home.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Leandra explained to hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid that their worry was that her gran was in isolation.

Revealing that they hadn't been able to communicate with her at all, Leandra said: "Our worry now is that she's in isolation because, of course, if we were able to take her home that wouldn't have been necessary, she would have been with us.

"So we're really worried she's going to deteriorate further because she probably won't be taken out of bed and for someone of her age with her dementia, we're just really concerned about what's going to happen to her.

"I think what's really, really important to emphasise is that we are not alone in this situation - there are thousands and thousands and thousands of families in our position."

During the interview, Ylenia also spoke about how her taking her mum out of the care home hadn't been planned but that they had attempted to do so through the correct channels.

But neither she or daughter Leandra have power of attorney over her mum, making it incredibly difficult to make decisions on behalf of her welfare.

"It was just the heartbreak of seeing my mother through the window and trying to reach her," Ylenia said, explaining the moment she tried to take her out of the care home. "I simply couldn't bare it anymore."

She added: "I just wanted to put my arms around her and tell her that she wasn't abandoned."
