Ex-Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn loses a stone after soap storyline left her 'comfort eating'

Katie McGlynn has gone on a gym kick since leaving Coronation Street after tragic storyline left her 'comfort eating' on set.

The actress said she put on weight whilst playing out character Sinead Tinker's heartbreaking cervical cancer battle.

Katie left Weatherfield in October - six years after joining the soap - but says ehaustion left her 'snacking' unhealthy treats.

"I was snacking on biscuits in the green room and eating flapjacks made by the crew when I was exhausted," the 26-year-old told Closer magazine.

"I was usually between a size 8-10 when ordering clothes, but I was creeping up to a size 12, which isn't bad at all, but it was bigger than I usually am."

She previously told the Sunday Mirror that the emotional toll of the Corrie storyline left her "grabbing food and not really thinking about good nutrition."

Rochdale-born Katie revealed that she has since lost a stone after enrolling in a 12 week programme at Ultimate Performance Gym in Manchester.

The soap star has regularly posted her fitness updates to Instagram.

In one photo of herself working out with a personal trainer, Katie said: "After a busy year of filming, my fitness has really taken a backseat and I don’t feel 100% myself so I've decided it’s time to hit the reset button!

"Over the next few months I'm challenging both my mind and body - solely focusing on my training and nutrition.

"I've trained at U.P. for years and completely fell in love with it, so I'm really excited to get stuck in again..."
