Ex-Coronation Street star Charlie Condou lands role as 'suave' doctor on Holby City

Former Coronation Street star Charlie Condou has landed a role as a doctor in BBC's Holby City after playing a midwife in the ITV soap.

The 46-year-old actor played Marcus Dent in Corrie, on and off between 2007 and 2014, and will now play a 'suave' doctor called Ben Sherwood in Holby City hospital.

Ben will be a new locum surgeon on the Keller ward in the medical drama and the character has been described as a "charming, alpha consultant."

Show bosses have promised that Ben's arrival will stir up the dynamics at the hospital and there will be prospects of a romance with another member of the team.

Condou will join Holby in December and has said about his casting: "I'm over the moon to be joining Holby City as suave new Doctor Ben Sherwood.

"He's a good guy but will definitely be ruffling a few feathers over the coming months. I can't wait to get started!"

Condou made a dramatic exit from Weatherfield when his midwife character Marcus Dent fell in love with Todd Grimshaw, played by Bruno Langley, five years ago.

Simon Harper, executive producer of Holby City and Casualty, said: "Charlie's a very fine actor and a well known popular TV face - and we are very lucky to have tempted him to Holby.

"I can't wait to see him as Ben, both causing a stir and getting under the skin of his colleagues on Keller!"
