A former Australian Federal Police deputy commissioner has beaten court charges of abusing his position and has been awarded costs.
Ramzi Jabbour pleaded not guilty in the ACT Magistrates Court last year to possessing a prohibited firearm and abusing his position as a senior officer.
He was stood down from the AFP in March 2019 pending a professional standards investigation.
Mr Jabbour then resigned from the AFP in August 2019, after a 30-year career in the service.
It was alleged he took a service pistol from a shooting range to a NSW property in 2018, firing a number of rounds including at kangaroos.
Magistrate James Stewart found on Friday there was nothing unlawful about Mr Jabbour taking the pistol from the first shoot to the second shoot.
On the charge of abusing his position, Mr Stewart said Mr Jabbour's seeking of advice from a legal officer - which was for a child's homework - did not amount to a crime.
