Ex-coach facing more child sex charges

Police in Queensland arrested the 40-year-old man in March after raiding a Sunshine Coast property. (AAP)

A former water sports coach and private school teacher accused of using a fake Instagram account to groom children is facing 23 fresh charges in Queensland.

The 40-year-old man was arrested in March when detectives raided a Sunshine Coast property and allegedly discovered child exploitation material.

He was charged with possessing and distributing child exploitation material and police at the time issued a public appeal for potential victims to come forward.

On Monday, detectives from the Sunshine Coast Child Abuse Unit added 23 more charges to the list.

They include 14 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, five counts of stealing, two counts of forgery, and one count each of grooming, and observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

Police will allege he created an Instagram account under the alias Taylor Brooke with the user name tay_brookesa and used it to chat to children.

The account has been deactivated but detectives want to hear from anyone who had contact with the man, or that account.

Police will also allege the man forged documents, and stole items from a school where he used to work.

The man was refused police bail and appeared briefly in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday morning, police said on Monday.

He was remanded in custody to reappear on August 6.

The man formerly worked as a teacher at a private school on the Sunshine Coast, and was also a coach with a major water sports association.
