Ex-City stalwart brands Jack Grealish 'one of English football's most exciting talents'

Nedum Onuoha has described Manchester City record signing Jack Grealish as "one of the most exciting attacking talents in English football."

Grealish made his competitive debut for City on Sunday but was unable to inspire his new side as they were handed a shock 1-0 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

The flamboyant playmaker struggled to get going as his attempts to deliver decisive final balls were thwarted by Tottenham Hotspurs' surprise standout performer Japhet Tanganga.

Unsurprisingly, Grealish grew into the game and started to look more threatening once Belgian superstar Kevin De Bruyne entered the fray on the 79th minute, but the Premier League's two most prolific chance creators from last season were unable to successfully pick Spurs' lock.

However, former City centre-back Nedum Onuoha has tipped Grealish to be a mega success in a City shirt, commenting: "I think Jack Grealish is one of the most exciting attacking talents in English football.

"He could be one of the best in this team which is a statement in itself because this club has the best players in the world.

"His performances are going to have to be at the very top to stay in the team."

Grealish had a brilliant campaign with Aston Villa last season scoring six goals and laying on ten assists as Villa announced themselves as a club committed to fighting for European places.

His standout performance came as Villa demolished defending champions Liverpool 7-2 in the opening weeks of the season, scoring twice and assisting three more.

His exploits in the league and strong performances at Euro 2020 prompted Pep Guardiola to push for a £100million move for the Englishman and City fans will hope he can replicate his impressive performances in a sky blue shirt - with City set to face stiff competition for the Premier League from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

City icon Onuoha went on to say: "But when you have that desire and love of the game, that’s who you want representing your team

"Everybody respects Grealish, but what he did at Villa is going to be different to what he does at City."
