Ex-Chiefs QB Aaron Murray named starter for AAF’s Atlanta Legends

Former Chiefs quarterback Aaron Murray is no longer a backup in the AAF.

The Chiefs selected Murray in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL draft. He never caught on in Kansas City, or the NFL for that matter. Now he’ll get his opportunity to shine in the Alliance of American Football. This week he’s been named the starter for the Atlanta Legends, and he has a chance to earn the job permanently.

Murray took over for an injured Matt Simms early in the Legends’ game against the Arizona Hotshots. It was the fourth week of the season for the AAF, and the Legends were winless coming into the game. Murray played a flawless game, finishing 20-of-33 for 254 yards. He even led the team with 54 rushing yards on the day. He didn’t throw a touchdown, but he also took care of the football and didn’t throw an interception.

This performance helped earn the Legends their first win of the season. Now Murray will have an opportunity to build on his success and the first win for the Legends. The Legends take on the Memphis Express on Sunday.
