Ex-Chicago meteorologist inspires tears on 'Dancing with the Stars'

April 05--ABC News chief meteorologist Ginger Zee's emotional contemporary routine Monday on "Dancing with the Stars" inspired tears from at least one audience member: Her newborn son, Adrian.

Adrian, who was born in December, wailed as the judges voted to give Zee and professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy 21 out of 30 points after they danced to Phillip Phillips' "Home."

Zee, who worked at WMAQ-Ch. 5 from 2006-11, said she has long been a Phillips fan and the "Home" sheet music is framed in her home. The celebrities and their dancing partners were tasked with creating a routine inspired by the most memorable year of their lives.

Zee, 35, picked 2013, the year she got engaged to husband Ben Aaron, who brought Adrian to her after her performance. "Dancing with the Stars" co-host Erin Andrews pointed out that Zee has it all.

The judges praised her emotional story but judge Len Goodman said Zee's arm movements could have been more fluid.

"The joy was contagious and you're so effervescent," judge Carrie Ann Inaba said.

Former Bears quarterback Doug Flutie also inspired tears through his waltz to "Rainbow Connection," performed by guest singer Andra Day.

Flutie, who played for the Bears from 1986-87, picked 2015, the year his parents died on the same day. He and professional partner Karina Smirnoff earned 20 out of 30 points after judges noted his elegance and improvement over the last two weeks.

"You created magic. Yes, it was a very simple routine but you shone brightly in that routine Doug," Inaba said.

Flutie and Smirnoff were among the bottom three pairs Monday, based on last week's performances, but actress Mischa Barton and partner Artem Chigvintsev were voted off the show for not earning enough viewer votes.

Ten couples remain on the 22nd season of "Dancing with the Stars," which airs 7 p.m. Mondays on ABC.
