Ex-Chicago attorney on 'Survivor' shocker: I feel at peace

Nov. 12--The first time he was eliminated from "Survivor" 12 years ago, Andrew Savage left behind unfinished business.

When the former Chicago attorney was voted off in Wednesday's episode of "Survivor," Savage initially looked shocked but said Thursday he has come to terms with the decision.

"I kind of conquered the 'Survivor' demons," Savage told the Tribune by phone Thursday. "I feel at peace."

Savage, who lives in California after 12 years in Chicago, was eliminated in a twist to the game. More contestants voted to cut contestant Kelley Wentworth but Wentworth had secret immunity. Savage was sent packing as the 12th place finisher of "Survivor: Cambodia -- Second Chance."

He came in 10th place in "Survivor: Pearl Islands," the seventh season of the franchise.

The 31st season of "Survivor" is giving cast-offs like Savage a second shot at the "Survivor" title. The public voted this year to send 20 of their favorites to Cambodia.

Savage, who lived in Chicago until 2004, said the city rallied around him the first time he was eliminated. He said he often got recognized when he was out to eat in Chicago.

"Entire tables would come up to us as if they knew me," Savage said. "My (young daughters) were kind of freaked out by that."

Savage said it was an honor to the play the game and would join a future "Survivor" cast if timing is right.

"I gave it everything I had," Savage said.

"Survivor" airs Wednesdays on CBS at 7 p.m. Spencer Bledsoe, a "Survivor: Cagayan" cast-off who attended the University of Chicago, remains in the competition.
