BT Sport pundit delivers stinging criticism of Spurs ace ahead of Ajax Champions League clash

Chris Sutton has given a scathing assessment of Dele Alli's performances this season, branding the Spurs man as the "most overrated player right now".

Alli, who has been one of the rising stars of Mauricio Pochettino's tenure, has endured a frustrating campaign to date, only managing seven goals and six assists in 35 games so far this season.

And Sutton, speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, believes that the England international needs to step up to the mark in his side's Champions League semi-final second-leg against Ajax on Wednesday night.

What Arsenal's draw against Brighton means for Chelsea and Spurs in the battle for the top four

"I'll tell you my most overrated player right now, Dele Alli," Sutton said, speaking on Sunday's 606 programme.

"I think he's been really poor for Tottenham. I think his numbers are bad, you look at him in previous seasons.

"He needs to step up on Wednesday night, in Ajax, in the big arena. I don't think he's been good enough this season for Spurs."

These Spurs fans are all loving what Brighton's Yves Bissouma did after draw with Arsenal

Tottenham go into the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash 1-0 down, after losing out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night.

Spurs travel to Amsterdam for the second leg on Wednesday night.
