Ex-Chargers QB Cardale Jones signs with Seahawks

The Seahawks signed former Chargers quarterback Cardale Jones to their practice squad on Saturday, according to the NFL’s transaction report.

After his best preseason as a professional yet, Jones was released on cutdown day. Jones was preceded by rookie Easton Stick for the last quarterback spot on the roster.

Despite completing 28-of-41 passes for 357 yards (8.7 yards per attempt) with one touchdown, no interceptions for a passer rating of 103.4 this summer, Los Angeles didn’t see a future with Jones.

Jones replaces his former teammate at Ohio State, J.T. Barrett, who was signed by Seattle and was released when they finalized the 53-man roster.

Jones will reunite with Geno Smith on the practice field. Jones and Smith backed up Philip Rivers in 2018. Smith won the backup job to Russell Wilson.
