Ex-champs Muang Thong hit rock bottom

Nakhon Ratchasima's Leandro Assumpcao, centre, scores against the Kirins.

Former champions SCG Muang Thong Thani hit the nadir when they tumbled down to join the pack of cellar-dwellers in Thai League 1 after suffering yet another thrashing last night.

The Kirins were beaten 3-1 away at Nakhon Ratchasima and after spending close to 300 million baht in the off-season, Muang Thong only have two wins against five losses to show off so far.

This is the third straight defeat suffered by the four-time winners of the top flight.

Former Muang Thong striker Leandro Assumpcao put the Swat Cats on course to a big win soon after the half-hour mark and within minutes, the hosts' lead was doubled by Chitchanok Xaysensourinthone.

Doumbia Henry fired home a long shot from near the top of the box to make it 3-0 for the Swat Cats in the 67th minute.

Thailand international Adisak Kraisorn pulled one back for the Kirins so late in the match that a comeback remained far out of sight.

William Henrique struck twice for Chiang Rai United to hand Ratchaburi a 2-0 defeat.

It was the second loss in three games for Ratchaburi's new coach Marco Simone.

At Thung Thalay Luang Stadium, hosts Sukhothai escaped with a goalless draw against Chonburi last night.

Thailand midfielder Worachit Kanitsribumphen had the best opening of the match but his shot was warded off by Sukhothai goalkeeper Kittikun Jamsuwan to ensure that the home team earned a point from the match.

In the late game on Saturday night, Trat claimed a point after holding visiting Samut Prakran City to a 1-1 draw.

The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute through Lonsana Doumbouya before Samut Prakarn City equalised in the 41st minute when Ibson Demelo scored.
