Ex-Celtic winger Lewis Morgan picks up Inter Miami MVP award with English clubs circling

Former Celtic winger Lewis Morgan has been named Inter Miami’s most valuable player after their maiden MLS season.

The Scotland international left Celtic Park for the States last January and the move has been a success for both player and club.

The Florida franchise, owned by former Manchester United star David Beckham, secured a play-off place thanks in part to the five goals and eight assist Morgan contributed.

And his form across the pond has caught the attention of clubs down south, with Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Reading reportedly considering a £2million move for the former Rangers youth player.

Morgan told the club’s website: “This accomplishment is actually something that I kind of targeted. It’s important to set high standards for yourself and it’s something that I aimed for at the start of the year.”

Brendan Rodgers snapped up Morgan after impressing for St Mirren back in 2018, but immediately loaned him back to the Paisley club.

He then teamed up with Jack Ross once again on loan at Sunderland, where he suffered the heartache of losing the League One promotion play-off final at Wembley.

He was given some game time by Neil Lennon upon his return to Celtic but took the chance to make the move to Miami 11 months ago.

He’s since linked up to good effect with former Real Madrid and Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain.
