Ex-Celtic Wag Helen Flanagan says schools should stop isolating children after daughter had just 'eight weeks' of school last year

Former Celtic Wag Helen Flanagan has hit out at school isolation policies after revealing her youngest daughter was only in school for eight weeks last year.

The former Coronation Street star shared a picture of five-year-old Matilda on her Instagram page and told her one million followers that they youngster had missed so much term time due to lockdowns and isolation spells.

Helen said Matilda only started school in March 2020 due to dad Scott Sinclair 's move from Celtic to Preston North End in January last year.

But since then the actress, who is also mum to Delilah, six and three-month-old son Charlie, says her middle child has had only eight weeks of schooling due to lockdowns and isolation.

Posting on social media the mum-of-three said: "Happy to have Matilda off school for the summer and have some quality time together. Matilda has done so well.

"Matilda joined school in March 2020 ( daddy’s football move) and only had around eight weeks of reception. My little girl has been on constant catch up and then the January lockdown.

"I really really hope for more normality for our children in the new school year and I really hope they don’t keep isolating children off school. It’s really not good for children at all.

"I can’t believe Matilda is going into year two.... feels like I haven’t done enough school runs. Children are always priority. Children should always be put first. Proud of my little one."

Helen's post received hundreds of likes and comments from like-minded parents who have found the isolation periods hugely disruptive to their childrens' education.

One said: 'Exactly the same for my little Girl. She will be going into year 2 in September. I had another baby girl April 2020 so she’s had more than enough change. It’s been tough for them all that for sure. Bring on more normality."

Another agreed: "Could not have said it better."

a third added: "You’re doing great Matilda! My little girl, Indiee will also be heading into year 2 in September, I really feel for them, they’ve missed out on so much."
