Ex-Celtic WAG Helen Flanagan bravely opens up about mental health struggles and urges fans to "be kind"

Ex-Celtic WAG and Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has spoken out about her struggles with mental health.

The 29-year-old shared her story on Instagram while posting a beautiful picture of her and her four-year-old daughter Matilda.

The actress, who left Glasgow in January with former Hoops partner Scott Sinclair, urged her fans to speak out if they’re struggling and that it was nothing to be ashamed of.

She wrote: “It’s mental health awareness week. Just wanted to send love to anyone that is struggling at the moment.

“I have struggled at times in my life and so many of my loved ones have. Mental health is nothing to be ashamed of and so many people struggling you are not on your own.

“Talk to someone. There is so many people that really care. Mental health is not a weakness and it really does make me angry when some people are insensitive towards mental health.

“Do what’s right for you, if that’s exercise, yoga, therapy, medication, doing whatever makes you feel good.

“Look after yourself. Be kind and if you can’t be kind be quiet. Be careful how you use social media if you not in a good place.

“Only follow accounts that make you feel good and happy. My favourite accounts are women that inspire me. That are honest and talk openly and all about women empowerment.

“Please talk to someone if you are struggling and be open.”

The mum-of-two, whose partner joined the Parkhead side in 2016, previously told how Glasgow would “always have such a special place in her heart” after moving south earlier this year.
