Ex-Celtic star Youssouf Mulumbu admits 'very demanding' conditions have left him frozen out of football for a YEAR

Former Celtic and Kilmarnock midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu confesses he was far too stubborn about the quality of club he would join after suffering a YEAR out of the game.

He was one of the first names on Steve Clarke 's Killie teamsheet and saw his excellent form win him a shock move to Glasgow in 2018.

But he made just one league start for the Hoops under Brendan Rodgers before returning to Ayrshire on loan and the Hoops later cut short his two-year deal after activating a clause in his contract.

He played for Congo at the African Cup of Nations last summer, but despite a trial spell with Birmingham City, the former PSG player has been without a club since.

And he admitted he was too picky about his next step in his career.

He said: "I was on loan at Kilmarnock from Celtic and then I went to play for at the Cup of Nations and it went well.

"When I came back there were offers from clubs in Turkey, but I wanted to play in a good league, like the English Championship or Ligue 1.

"So I decided to wait until a suitable offer came in. I was very demanding and decided to wait because there were only certain clubs I wanted to play for.

"Looking back, had I known what would happen, I should have thought more about certain offers.

"I am better known in the UK than in France because I have spent most of my career there.

"Football is stopped for everyone, so I'm at a standstill like everyone else. I am keeping in shape and remain patient.

"I trained with Birmingham City and everything was going well before the virus and I have to send my data to their fitness team. So I will have to wait and see what happens when football returns."
