Ex-Celtic star tips Anthony Stokes for English switch career revival amid East Kilbride link

Former Celtic star Andy Walker believes an English side will take a punt on Anthony Stokes after his Livingston pit stop.

The pundit reckons a move south could be perfect for the Republic of Ireland cap after his 12-month contract at the Tony Macaroni Stadium was ripped up just three weeks into his deal.

The former East Kilbride YM youth player Walke r told Sky Sports that he couldn't envision a move to any Scottish club despite links with a sensational switch East Kilbride in the fifth tier.

Ahead of a switch to the Lions, the Lowland League side  opened the door for shock swoop for the 32-year-old with boss Stevie Aitken stating "if we could make a pitch and a deal could be done, we would do it."

Last week former Kilby star Chris Humphrey urged Stokes to consider a career reboot at the K-Park, though a move has previously been reported as "unlikely".

"I think he has so much talent," he told the Sky Sports Scottish Football podcast.

"He was such a big player for Celtic for such a long time and when he had that performance in the Scottish Cup Final with Hibs I thought there is a player who can do it in a big game.

"He hasn't done himself any favours with the lack of game time he has had and the strange destinations he has gone to.

"I don't think it's quite the end yet. I think he will find someone who is willing to give him a chance in England somewhere.

"He does have ability. Is it too long ago to say that he has the ability to make a difference? Maybe it is, he's no done himself any favours.

"I do think there is another pit stop for him somewhere. I can't see it being in Scotland, but there are so many in England desperate for a goalscorer."
