Ex-Celtic star Efe Ambrose set for seventh SPFL club

Former Celtic ace Efe Ambrose looks to be on the move again.

The 34-year-old could be set to join his seventh SPFL side.

He has been training with Paul Hartley's Cove Rangers in his search for a new club.

And it would appear that the experienced centre-back might be offered a deal at the League One club if he has a successful trial.

The Nigerian spent last season with Morton after joining in October. He went on to make just 13 appearances though, as he was released by the Championship outfit.

He has now dropped down a division and will aim to help Cove win promotion straight back to Scotland's second tier should he be signed.

Ambrose played in a friendly match for Cove earlier this week, as they ran out 3-0 winners in a game against an XI of unattached players.

The defender is certainly no stranger to Scottish football. He first made his name at Celtic when he signed in 2012 under Neil Lennon.

He played a key role at the heart of his side's defence and played outstanding in Celtic's famous win over Barcelona.

Eventually, though, Ambrose would fall out of favour in Glasgow's east end, and he move on loan to Hibs before joining permanently.

He then had a brief spell at Derby County before returning north to play for Livingston in 2021.

He then played for St Johnstone and Dunfermline. Dougie Imrie then drafted in the defender to his Morton backline.
