Ex-Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew missed holiday flight after failing to do Covid test on time

Ex- Celtic player Charlie Mulgrew missed a holiday flight after failing to do a Covid test on time.

The Dundee United star fell foul of a PCR rule change as Emirates refused to let 60 people, including his family, fly to Dubai.

But the airline let the travellers rearrange their flights and it’s understood Mulgrew, 36, wife Alana, 35, and three kids flew out the next day.

Last week, it was announced PCR test rules for foreign travel would be relaxed making it easier — and cheaper — to fly back into the UK.

But Scots still face different testing rules depending on where they go.

Mike Tibbert, president of The Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association (SPAA), said: “Most travellers, even when there are frequent changes, keep up to date with the most current Scottish and UK travel requirements as these are widely reported.

“What many forget is that each and every country has its own frequently changing regulations and these are much harder for the average traveller to keep up with.”

An Emirates spokesperson said: “As of 04:00 GST on January 2, regulations were updated to stipulate that all passengers travelling from the UK to or through Dubai must present a negative Covid PCR test certificate, with the test taken no more than 48 hours prior to departure.

“The change was communicated to customers and agents on December 31 2021, but unfortunately some passengers did not have the necessary certificates in time and were therefore unable to travel.

“Emirates apologises for any inconvenience our customers experienced.”
