Ex Celtic star Alan Thompson KO'd on boxing debut as he loses out to boyband heartthrob

Ex Celtic star Alan Thompson might have his work cut out for him if he has designs on a professional boxing career.

Because the 47-year-old lasted just two rounds with one of the singers from Blue in a high-profile celebrity boxing event.

Thompson was known as a combative midfielder during his 17-year playing career that saw him run out for Newcastle, Bolton and Aston Villa among others in his native England.

The best of his football arguably came at Parkhead where he spent his peak years and earned his one and only international cap.

He hung up his boots in 2008, shortly after leaving Celtic for Leeds and he's recently been involved with Fite TV's Boxstar - a celebrity boxing event that pits well known names from various fields of sport and entertainment against one another.

Thompson took to the ring in Saturday's 'A New Kind of Ratings War' event that featured everyone from former Manchester United midfielder Clayton Blackmore to DJ Tom Zanetti.

Thompson squared up Simon Webbe, best known as one of the members of 2000s boyband Blue.

But Webbe, two years Thompson's junior, won by KO in only the second round after leaving the former Hoops man on the mat.

It remains to be seen if Thompson will venture back into boxing in future.
