Ex-Celtic man Kieran Tierney Arsenal captaincy calls grow as fans back him with Aubameyang and Lacazette out

Kieran Tierney is in contention to captain Arsenal in their Premier League opener against Brentford tonight.

The North London side will kickstart the 2021/22 season without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and stand-in, Alexander Lacazette.

Muirhouse man Tierney is regarded as a future captain at Gunners and Arsenal fans have called for him to wear the armband in the absence of Aubameyang and Lacazette.

Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka could be handed the armband but he was stripped of the privilege by former boss Unai Emery in November 2019, following an outburst.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has, previously, praised Tierney's leadership skills and supporters want the 24-year-old to be handed the honour.

Tierney was outstanding for Scotland against England at Wembley during EURO 2020 this summer and he will be hoping to continue that form with Arsenal this season.
