Ex- Celtic Kendrick Perkins into an Isaiah Thomas return to Boston

Former Boston Celtic center Kendrick Perkins knows a thing or two about being traded from the Celtics by team president Danny Ainge after an injury, so it’s no surprise he’s sympathetic to fellow Boston alumnus Isaiah Thomas’ situation.

Speaking with Heavy.com’s Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson on his “Heavy Live With Scoop B Show”, the former Celtic champion shared his thoughts on the fan favorite floor general. Thomas — who was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 after injuring his hip in the 2017 NBA Playoffs — is looking for a chance to get back into the NBA after surgically repairing his hip.

“I would love to see IT back in Boston,” opined Perkins.

“I think knowing what’s happening with Kemba [Walker], it would be a great fit. And then, just think about what they have, right? The history of what he’s done for the Celtics organization. Yeah, he didn’t win a championship but he literally laid his body on the line for their organization.”

“I understand that a business move happened, but if I’m Danny Ainge, I’m going to go out there and get IT because it’s adding more firepower to the bench,” he added.

Still beloved in Boston, Thomas would be welcomed back with open arms by his fans if such an end were to come to fruition.

And with Walker sidelined while he rehabs his own injury, Perk has a point about the team’s need for scoring depth.

But it seems unlikely the Celtics will pull the trigger on adding any players so early in the season, with the plan for now being to use the early part of the season for evaluation and development.
