Ex-Celtic hero Paul Hartley re-appointed Cove Rangers manager

Paul Hartley has been re-appointed as Cove Rangers boss, eight months after leaving the club for Hartlepool United.

The 46-year-old former Celtic, Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies midfielder guided Cove to two league titles, taking them to the Championship before heading down south.

But that turned sour and Hartley, from Hamilton, and assistant Gordon Young were sacked by Hartlepool in September after just three months in charge, with the side second-bottom of League Two.

Jim McIntyre was sacked by Cove on Tuesday following a 6-1 hammering against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, leaving them eighth in the Championship, four points above the relegation zone. McIntyre, who was appointed in June, won just seven of 25 games.

Cove chairman Keith Moorhouse said: "I feel we have the right man in place to take us forward.

"As a club, we know Paul and how he works, and given his availability, this decision makes sense for both parties.

"He understands Cove Rangers and shares our ambitions, and given how well he worked with the players before, I am hoping the transition will be seamless."
