Ex-Celtic head of recruitment 'set' for key AC Milan role

Former Celtic head of recruitment Lee Congerton is set to be appointed as sports director of AC Milan.

The Welsh talent spotter had a two-year spell at Celtic before leaving for Leicester City. He is currently head of senior recruitment for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.

He later criticised his time at Parkhead and hit out at what he regarded as a lack of investment in the transfer market.

He said: "At Celtic, we had no money. Peter Lawwell is a nice man, he’s an accountant.

"And there were several players I didn’t want to be anywhere near them and that is why I left. Peter knows that and so did Brendan Rodgers."

Congerton, who also worked for Liverpool, Chelsea and Hamburg, won plaudits for his work in Italy at Atalanta before he left for Saudi Arabia last year.

Now he's been headhunted by AC Milan and is expected to be appointed soon as they try and overhaul a squad following a disappointing season.
