Ex-Celtic defender departs role with Premier League club after four years

Former Celtic defender Steven Pressley has departed his role with Brentford.

The 51-year-old joined the English Premier League club as their head of individual player development in 2021.

He helped the likes of Yehor Yarmoliuk, Ryan Trevitt, Ji-soo Kim and Paris Maghoma all progress from the B side to the first team.

Pressley's departure was announced on Thursday morning: "After careful consideration, I’ve decided it’s time for a new challenge in my career," he told the club's website

"I leave the club having formed some great friendships, great memories, and also being appreciative of the opportunity to work with some highly-skilled people, which has allowed me to learn and grow as a person."

The club's director of football, Phil Giles, added: "I’d like to thank Steven for his commitment to Brentford over the last 4 seasons.

"As well as developing some of our best young players and having a meaningful impact on first-team performances in the Premier League, he’s been a top professional and a pleasure to get to know as a person.

"On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I wish him well in his future career."

Pressley spent a year and a half at Celtic, making 22 appearances after joining the club from Heart of Midlothian.

He won two Scottish Premiership titles in Glasgow's east end and played 32 times for Scotland.

It remains to be seen what lies ahead for Pressley after his departure from the Gtech Community Stadium.
