Ex-Celt Sebastian Telfair mother, brother pass after COVID-19 battles

Ex-Boston Celtic guard Sebastian Telfair’s mother and brother have passed away after fighting COVID-19, reports the New York Post’s Stefan Staszewski.

Telfair, who was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2006 directly out of high school, lost his mother Erica Telfair and older brother Dan Turner after both struggled with the coronavirus behind the pandemic currently gripping the planet.

Telfair’s mother, age 64, passed early Monday morning after a struggle with COVID-19, and Turner on March 28th after going through the same.

Telfair is half-brother to former Celtic forward Jamel Thomas and cousin to ex-Boston guard Stephon Marbury, who related in a late-march article for The Undefeated his aunt was ‘fighting for her life’ due complications arising from the virus.

The Brooklyn native played for the Celtics in the 2006-07 NBA season as his second stop in the league, traded their from Portland in the summer of 2006.

He would later be dealt with Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson and Theo Ratliff to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the package that brought Kevin Garnett to Boston.

He averaged 6.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists over that stretch.
